Swimming Dragon

Updated: Jul 16, 2023

Taiyi Youlong Quan, also known as Swimming Dragon, is a traditional Chinese martial art style that originated from the Wudong mountain. It is named after the mythical dragon, symbolizing its fluid and powerful movements.

Taiyi Youlong Quan combines both internal and external training methods. Internal training focuses on cultivating Qi (internal energy) through breathing techniques, mental concentration, and energy circulation. External training emphasizes physical strength, agility, and quick reflexes.

The movements of Taiyi Youlong Quan are characterized by their graceful and flowing nature, imitating the movements of a swimming dragon. The techniques include various dragon-inspired movements such as "Dragon Emerges from the Cave," "Dragon Flips Over the River," and "Dragon Soars in the Clouds." These movements aim to replicate the dragon's free-flowing motion, agility, and its ability to strike swiftly.

Practicing Taiyi Youlong Quan not only enhances physical fitness but also cultivates mental focus, coordination, and balance. It is both a martial art and a form of moving meditation, promoting overall well-being and self-cultivation. Some people say Taiyi Youlong Quan is an exercise combining both the Taiji Quan and Yoga.
